The Phoenix Stage Company in Naugatuck, CT will present “MASTER CLASS” which is the tale of acclaimed opera singer Maria Callas. The play is written by award winning playwright Terrence McNally, whose other works include Ragtime and the Full Monty. The audience does not need to know opera to enjoy the play because the driving force is the powerful story; sometimes sad, sometimes uproarious, this play is always riveting because of the glamorous but commanding character of Callas, expertly portrayed by Marilyn Olsen. Rumors have swirled that a motion picture may be made of this play. During this rehearsal the stage is still being set and the cast is fine tuning their performances. The full dress rehearsal is next week and a full review of the play will be provided on Nutmeg Chatter on Thursday 1/15/2015! The show will be performed one weekend only: January 16, 17 and 18th and if the rehearsal I saw was any indication, people will be talking about Olsen’s Callas throughout the theatrical season.
