In January 2014, Nutmeg Chatter enjoyed the honor of introducing our readers to the work of Opera singer and “Opera-preneur” Katie Kat, an extraordinary vocalist and performer who resides in Torrington, Connecticut. Now in 2015, Kat’s vision is to share the work of Dvorak’s Long Songs in audio as well as visual form and we all have an opportunity to play a part in that journey!
Anton Dvorak is of course the celebrated 19th Century composer whose work is powerful and moving, standing the test of time to become essential listening for all music lovers. His style often celebrated his heritage, incorporating traditional Czech and Slavic inspirations. Dvorak’s work continues to inspire audiences worldwide to this day and indeed it was “The Song to the Moon” from Dvorak’s opera Rusalka that inspired Kat to begin her operatic career.
Katie Kat received vocal training at the Spoletto Vocal Arts Symposium in Spoleto, Italy and received her Masters in Classical Vocal Performance at NYU. Performing musical theater as well as opera concerts, especially in NYC where she performed a concert with the One World Orchestra and a concert at Lincoln Center’s Rubenstein Atrium.
Today Kat is creating a unique and special project to put Dvorak’s love songs front and center. Kat will record Dvorak’s love songs at the renowned Firehouse 12 studios in New Haven but that is just the beginning of the venture. Kat will then script and film videos to accompany the audio recording, weaving a beautiful love story. To make this project come to life she has created a kickstarter campaign.
Kat’s video states this is a project that has never been done before and each member who joins the campaign helps make the dream a reality.
The CD launch party and concert will be held at Torrington’s Studio 59Live Arts later in 2015.
