On the evening of 7/21/2016, Torrington, Connecticut was abuzz with activity during the first Main Street Marketplace of the season and the first under the new leadership team. Visitors noted a number of significant changes not the least of which was bringing the event back from Franklin Street onto Main Street. There was an arena area across from City Hall where a stage held the rockin’ sound of The Screamin Eagle Band, a concert made even more magical as they performed next to the Ray White Eagle statue.
Starting with the parade and ribbon cutting, the first Grand Marshall for the 2016 season was Frank Dlugokinski, Commander AMVETS National District ONE New England, New York and New Jersey. The arena area was filled with tents supporting those in the Armed Forces. Across the way there was an opportunity for those who registered and signed up to take their shot at rolling the dice for a chance to win a Disney Vacation (no purchase required, only registering). I rolled the dice (didn’t win but had fun!)
Vendor tents aligned the side of Main street as a fun train took passengers on a journey through the festivities. At the southern end, a tent hosting WAPJ personalities like Barrie Soucy, Jacque Williams, Jay Roberts, Alicia Landy, John Ramsay, Tony Henry, Max Tieman and more!
Congratulations to the entire team who made the first evening a success!
The event runs each Thursday evening through August 18th from 5PM to 9PM
