The 4th Annual Ladies n’ Lyrics series will come to a close in style this season with their upcoming 9/18/2015 concert from 6-8pm at UCONN Torrington campus featuring the musical talent of Lisa Martin and Lara Herscovitch. Sponsored by Mindscape Industries and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, this Singer-Songwriter Network concert will feature these two impressive singer songwriters in the intimate setting at the UCONN campus. Both Martin and Herscovitch are veteran performers whose work is much beloved within the northwest Connecticut community.
“The compelling aspects of this showcase will be the musical versatility of the performers,” says Jacque Williams, founder of the Singer Songwriter Network.
Lisa Martin and Lara Herscovitch embody the rich talent that our community has come to expect from the Singer Songwriter Network showcases. Lisa Martin’s music is recognized throughout the north east; she was most recently awarded the Best Country/Americana Artist at the 2015 Worcester Music Awards. She describes her own work by saying, “Thematically, my songs cover the gamut of love, loss, hope, social themes, anti-love songs, growing older, glory days, etc. Variety. It’s the spice of life they say!”
Lara Herscovitch was the 2010 CT State Troubadour and her music has been described as modern American folk music that focuses on the storytelling. Herscovitch herself describes her work as “crafted poetry riding on a unique sound that is new folk flavored with blues, pop and jazz influence”.
The Ladies n’ Lyrics series was created by the Singer Songwriter Network’s Jacque Williams. “The concept for Ladies n’ Lyrics came out of a desire to showcase the talents of the many female artists in our region performing their own music,” says Williams. “We wanted to collaborate with the Torrington Historical Society, Hopkins Vineyard and U Conn as host venues that could capture and frame the uniqueness of the artists that we were showcasing. U-Conn provides a unique background for this concept because of the intimacy of the courtyard located on the U-Conn Torrington campus. Additionally we feel that the branch because of the 220 seat auditorium can become both an indoor and outdoor venue to showcase our artists.”
A variety of styles and themes will be showcased in the show. Martin says, “My songs vary in genre because that’s just how I write, so there is variety of sound and rhythm. I can sing a soft ballad or belt out a more rockin’ kind of tune.” This element of creativity is shared by Herscovitch who will be performing her audience favorites intermixed with songs from her upcoming 4th CD.
Lisa Martin is thrilled to be performing on the same bill with Lara Herscovitch. “Lara is so passionate about her art and her work which intertwine,” says Martin. “She is carving a path based on relevant social and interpersonal themes. I love her approach….not to mention her fabulous voice and guitar work!”
Lara Herscovitch is grateful for Martin’s friendship and says, “(Lisa Martin) has a great blues sensibility and style, a polished guitar and vocal delivery, and I’m really looking forward to hearing and singing some harmonies with her again.”
This entire event came about thanks to the hard work and dedication of Theresa Channell and Jacque Williams of the Singer Songwriter Network. “I can’t thank Singer Songwriter Network of Torrington enough for all they to do support and create opportunities for the songwriter community,” says Martin. “I am honored to be part of this show and look forward to sharing my music.”
Torrington has the opportunity to enjoy both singers’ performances this weekend Friday, September 18th from 6 – 8 pm at UCONN campus in Torrington at 855 University Drive, Torrington, CT. Tickets are $10.00
